As a crystal artisan with over 50 years of experience in the industry, I've had the pleasure of traveling to many places and meeting interesting people. But nothing could have prepared me for the incredible experience I had in Washington DC.
My trip to the US capital was marked by a series of unforgettable moments that will remain etched in my memory for years to come. The highlights of my trip were numerous, but the one that stands out above all else was my visit to the White House on St. Patrick's Day.
As I watched from the audience, my Beehive Designed shamrock bowl was presented to President Biden by an Taoiseach Leo Varadkar on behalf of the Irish people. It was a moment of immense pride and honor for me as an artisan, and it will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest highlights of my career.
Another moment that was particularly special for me was visiting the Irish embassy for a celebration welcoming the Taoiseach to Washington. It was wonderful to see so many people gathered together to celebrate our shared cultural heritage.
During my time in Washington, I also had the pleasure of meeting with Congressman Richie Neal, whose relations come from Ventry outside of Dingle in West Kerry. We enjoyed talking about the rich cultural connections between West Kerry and Springfield, MA, and it was fascinating to hear about his experiences growing up.
Of course, no trip to Washington would be complete without visiting all the museums and monuments that the city has to offer. I was particularly struck by the beauty of the National Mall, which is home to some of the most iconic landmarks in the country.
Beyond the sights and sounds of the city, I also had the opportunity to explore some of the fantastic bars and restaurants that Washington has to offer. Whether it was enjoying a pint of Guinness in a cozy pub or trying out some of the delicious local cuisine, I always felt welcomed by the warm and friendly people of the city.
Overall, my time in Washington DC was a truly unforgettable experience. From the incredible moments of pride and honor to the chance to explore all that the city has to offer, I feel incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to visit this incredible place. And I'm already looking forward to my next trip back!
